A fresh look at new footage from the game That Dragon Cancer, now coming to the Ouya console.
We have a close look at this Indie game that tells the story of Ryan Green’s son and his journey with cancer.
A first person point and click adventure set in a hospital, it weaves poetry, a simple visual style and piano soundtrack to create an intimate and unsettling window into developer Ryan Green’s personal life.
Playing as Green, in the first of a mooted six scene story, you not only tend to the needs of your young sick son but are also nudged towards reflection on the absurdity and sterility of the clinical setting.
Although this is more familiar territory for films and novels, deciding to create a video-game about the topic — particularly while that story is still unfolding in real life — is no small matter. Asking Green about the reasoning, or indeed wisdom, of bringing these things together and he calmly underlines that this is what creative people have always done when faced by the insurmountable — create.
